An in-depth understanding of Qetema can be achieved by viewing it from the perspective of a new paradigm.  Born from the power the Internet has brought to the masses, the paradigm of Crowd Accelerated Innovation is central to the realization of Qetema’s goals.

The Old Paradigm

 Historically, townscapes were built with the satisfaction of immediate need in mind: “Ooh this land looks good and it’s next to water.  Let’s build a few houses here.”  Decades, then centuries saw the organic development of towns and cities as the rise in population saw immediate need increase.  There was no notion of sustainability and scarcity of resources, or the tools to measure the scale of the destruction brought about by technical developments and industrialisation.

Today we face a future of scarcity, but are fortunate enough to have the tools and knowledge to bring about change.

Let’s use the available knowledge and technology to bring about a new paradigm

So Qetema says

Let’s firstly gather a mass that believes in the need for major global transformation at every level; environmental, social, and economical.  This is the gathering of people who believe the existence of Qetema could serve as a role model for major global reforms.  Those involved in this first phase of development will not necessarily move to the city; they will facilitate movement to the second phase (the planning phase).

The planning phase will consist of the mass, along with like-minded global experts, engaging in online discussion to design Qetema.  Land options will also be discussed in detail in this phase.  Ultimately, we will channel the resources of the same crowd and other external partners who are committed to our vision, to build this sustainable city together. The building phase too will be divided into several smaller stages that are implementable.

In order to move onto phase two, it is essential that we gather the required mass to create a demonstrable demand for alternative living; the current system cannot be forced to supply us otherwise.

With this approach Qetema will create an inside out impact to ‘the system'; a smooth transition empowered by the system itself. To play this game we need a team, a very big team.
